Anutthaman Hari Krishnaswamy - Indian percussionist

Welcome & thanks for browsing!

The Indian subcontinent has developed a bewildering variety of music in its long existence of over 5000 years. The rhythms of this region encompassing India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal are among the most sophisticated in the world. The system is cyclical with a mnemonic language for the rhythmic patterns. It is structured and brilliantly improvisational at the same time.

Some major percussion instruments are mridangam, tabla, pakhawaj, ghatam, kanjira, dholak, morsing, tavil, chenda, edakka and mizhavu.  Wikipedia has some basic information about some of these.

I play mridangam, ghatam, kanjira and morsing  according to the Tanjore school of southern India as well as some freestyle dholak and tabla.  I will eventually upload short demo videos.

With a little experience, one can support a wide variety of non-Indian genres like jazz, latino and Middle Eastern music. I have played for over 10 years and recorded in Germany with the Lovegan Fusion Band headed by Jazz guitarist Freedy Kirchner from 2009-2012. Our debut album is under production and is a blend of original jazz with latino and Indian influences.

Some of our work may be accessed on Youtube and Vimeo
